Red Bull New York II defeated Connecticut United FC 4-2 on Saturday night at Knights Field. Roald Mitchell and Christian Gallagher each scored twice for Red Bulls II, which improved to 13-8-4 with 44 points. Connecticut moved to 13-10-2 with 43 points, according to the club’s official match recap.
Connecticut Opens the Scoring
Connecticut took the lead in the 16th minute. Defender Andre Applewhaite found an unmarked Barnabás Tanyi, who finished the chance.
Mitchell scored the equalizer in the 61st minute despite a deflection from a Connecticut defender. The club’s recap also credits midfielder Robbie Mora with finding Tanyi on a counterattack before Tanyi laid the ball off to Bryan Destin for a Connecticut goal.
Red Bulls II Finish the Match
Red Bulls II’s recap credits Gallagher and Mitchell with producing a one-two combination for a tying goal. It then credits Mitchell with scoring the match-winning goal after a Connecticut defensive mistake.
Gallagher later played the ball wide to winger Benny Rodriguez, who found Gallagher again as the forward evaded the defense to complete his brace and seal the away victory.
Mitchell and Gallagher Lead the Attack
Mitchell scored his fifth and sixth goals of the season and recorded his second assist. The Trinidadian international is third on the club in goals scored this season.
Gallagher’s two goals were his seventh and eighth of the season. The 18-year-old is Red Bulls II’s leading scorer in the 2026 MLS NEXT Pro campaign. Rodriguez registered his seventh assist of the season, which ranks second on the club.
Goalkeeper Tobias Szewczyk made five saves, while defender Leonardo Dieujuste made his MLS NEXT Pro debut.
