New York City FC II will relocate to Middlesex County and begin playing there in July 2027 as an MLS NEXT Pro club, according to News12 New Jersey. The affiliate will initially operate as New Jersey MLS NEXT Pro before receiving a new name, colors and crest intended to reflect its new home. Fans and community members will be invited to participate in developing the club’s identity.
The club will play at the new 6,500-seat stadium at NEXUS, a $350 million sports and entertainment district in Middlesex County. The complex includes recreational fields, a restaurant and bar, and is near the 14-field NEXUS Fields youth facility. New York City FC will continue to oversee the team’s sporting operations, while Hometown Soccer Holdings will oversee commercial operations.
Still NYCFC’s Pathway, New Jersey Address
The team will remain New York City FC’s MLS NEXT Pro affiliate after its move. New Jersey MLS NEXT Pro will be the first MLS NEXT Pro side to relaunch under the Hometown Soccer Holdings commercial platform, which was formed through a partnership involving MLS and investment firm KKR.
The new club is planned with its own local identity and a dedicated home at NEXUS. That approach pairs New York City FC’s continued sporting oversight with a New Jersey-focused name, colors and crest that supporters will help shape.
Sherrill’s Pitch, and What’s Next
Gov. Mikie Sherrill joined soccer and county officials for the announcement. She described New Jersey as a soccer state and said the club would give fans in the middle of the state a team to support while creating opportunities for athletes and strengthening the sports economy. She also said the development could draw visitors for food, shopping and entertainment.
The partnership will establish Middlesex County as New York City FC’s second Youth Programs Regional Hub. In 2027, the organization plans to establish a youth soccer club at NEXUS Fields with teams and additional programming for children ages 3 to 18. Additional details on the club’s branding and stadium are expected later in 2026, ahead of the planned July 2027 kickoff.
